Advice & Grants

The Church is listed Grade II*, designed by the architect J J Scoles, for the Jesuits of Stonyhurst, who commissioned this glorious building to bring their mission to Liverpool.

The Archdiocese of Liverpool applied for an English Heritage / Heritage Lottery Fund Place of Worship Repair Grant to fund this £200,000 (approx.) repair to stone which had experienced aggressive deterioration following inappropriate cement pointing and rendering to the soft buff sandstone.

Our work involves recording the condition, and specifying repairs, advising on contractor pre-qualification, and market testing, approvals from the Historic Churches Committee, grant draw-down and overseeing the work.

We have also helped the Archdiocese apply for and draw down a further grant for a £150,000 (approx.) repair to the cast iron aisle windows.

We have most enjoyed delivering training and engagement activities with audiences as diverse as UCLan, the HCC and craft apprentices on topics such as technical repairs for stone and cast iron.
